Brian Hickey was a 20-year veteran of the New York City Fire Department. He commanded Rescue Company 4 in Queens. He was the covering Captain at Rescue 3 in the Bronx on 9/11.

The 47 year-old Captain had suffered burns and other injuries many times on the job, but he never dwelled on the dangers. Instead, he spoke with pride of the brotherhood of firefighters. In 1992, Captain Hickey and his brother Raymond created Brothers in Battle, a 45-minute video documentary about firefighting. It is still used in training. Captain Hickey was also a volunteer firefighter in Bethpage, New York, where he grew up.

Captain Hickey leaves behind his wife and four children.
